Why don’t I ever think of lame ideas like this?
Published January 12th, 2006 in FinanceToday one of my previous co-workers (a guy who I constantly try to come up with hair-brained ideas to get rich with) sent me a link to MillionDollarHomePage.Com
Story goes this 21 year old British kid decided he need to come up with a hair-brained idea to make a lot of money to pay for college. So what he did was create a web page with just one big graphic on it that was broken up into a 1000 pixel by 1000 pixel grid. This represents 1 million pixels and he decided to sell each pixel for $1 to raise a $million dollars (he actually required a minimum 100 pixel purchase - still really small)
Well he started this in August 2005. By November 2005 the Wall Street Journal did an article on his website. And just today he only had 1000 pixels left for sale. So he essentially made $999,000 on this idea. Well to top it off he put the last 1000 pixels up on Ebay and that auction just finished with a final bid of $38,100
It probably cost him $10 a month to host the website and maybe an hour or two to set the website up and the guy made over $1 million dollars.
Now I know what you are thinking, why don’t I just copy the idea. Well apparently I’m not the first person with the idea. The magic of capitalism and economics
